こちらの道の駅 東山道伊王野には、大きな水車が目印の「水車館」があります。 When you get tired from driving around the wide Nasu area, it’s nice to stop at a roadside station.
At Michi-no-Eki Higashiyamado Iono, there is Suishakan, easily recognized by its large water wheel.

水車館では、水車を使って挽いた蕎麦粉で作る手打ちそばが美味しいと評判です。 Suishakan is known for its delicious handmade soba, made with buckwheat flour milled by the water wheel.

どちらかと言うと、ちょっと太めで田舎そば風。
量も多めですが、意外とペロリと食べられてしまいます。 The noodles are rather thick and rustic in style.
The portion is generous, but you might be surprised at how easily you can finish it.

蕎麦粉の風味がしっかり感じられて、美味しいー。 You can really taste the flavor of the buckwheat—it’s so good.

おそばを食べた後のそば湯が、これまた絶品でした。
地元でとれた蕎麦粉を使用して作ったおそば。
水車と石臼で挽くと、機械で挽くときのように熱を持たないので、より美味しいそば粉が作れるのだそうです。
なるほど、蕎麦粉の風味が感じられるのにも納得です。 The soba-yu (hot water from cooking the soba) after the meal was also excellent.
The soba is made using local buckwheat flour.
Milling with a water wheel and stone mill avoids the heat created by machines, which helps preserve the flavor.
No wonder the buckwheat aroma is so noticeable.
